Woven into this story is a second theme about his physically disabled sister and the family's attempts to find money for an operation. As funny and touching as Wilson Rawls's Where the Red Fern Grows, this book will appeal to the young reader who has always wished for the freedom to run wild through the woods with nothing more pressing to do than find another rabbit hole--or escaped monkey. Provides an excellent framework

Failitating strategy sessions can be like herding cats. You are dealing with big egos and there is a real risk that you will go in circles or else come up with a bunch of meaningless drivel.

This book provides a clear and concise framework for delivering strategy that will mke a difference and can be easily communicated. It provides a step by step guide to going through the process and dealing with the likely challenges. Whether you are a facilitator, or just need to build a strategy, this is definitely worth having in your tool kit.

I took a facilitation class at the authors company a couple years back. I consider it to be the best training I have ever attended. I have used the skills and techniques taught countless times. My only affiliation to the author is that of a very satisfied customer.

Most helpful management book I've ever read

Michael does an excellent job of helping executives to both define and communicate strategy. In this complete guide for the entire life cycle of planning, communicating, monitoring, and adjusting strategy Michael breaks each step down into easy to follow and implement chunks. What was once a monumental task for my leadership team became so much easier, faster, and more accurate. Having implemented the sample templates provided on the referenced website in combination with the step-by-step guides in the book, we quickly came to precise and succinct clarity on our most important tasks, priorities, and actions. Yet, and this is most important, for once we have a working plan to actually ensure that our planning takes life into actions that adhere to realizing the goals of the plan! Our days of only visiting the strategic plan at the yearly planning session are over. Now, thanks to Michael and this book, we have a living and working set of documents that provide a lighted path to our goals.

A master of process, it's clear from the first few pages of the book that Michael put much strategic planning into the writing of the book as well. It is extremely clear, concise, and easy to follow yet powerful, packed with information, and 100% complete. It delivers on its promise; and it leaves nothing wanting. Buy this book and implement the steps; and you will receive the value traded for the book many hundreds of times over.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who seeks to be a better strategist.

This 250-page book, written by two University of Virginia professors, one a radiologist-MD, and the other a public health PhD, is a virtual enclyclopedia focusing exclusively on radiology imaging. Traditional X-ray (radiography, Mammography (breast), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance (MRI), Positon-Emission Tomography (PET), Ultrasound (sonography), and Nuclear Medicine (radioisotope scanning) are all covered in depth. The authors begin with a detailed history of the origin and development of each one of these imaging techniques, then describe how they are performed, and for what medical conditions they are best suitable. In plain conversational and every-day language, the authors explain to patients -- current and future (almost everyone will fall into one of these categories), what they can expect, beginning with the ordering of the exam by their primary care doctor, what if any pre-test preparation the patient must undergo, how the patient is positioned during the test, and the average duration of the exam.

But, in addition to the medical aspects of medical imaging, the authors do not shy away from its political, financial, and business aspects. Such topics as self-referral by referring physicians, the value (or lack of value) of screening tests, and teleradiology are discussed. The last part of the book is devoted to a probably realistic view of what the future holds for imaging; the authors "take" us to the year 2036, and predict the type of imaging, and how it will be used to diagnose and treat disease.

Why do the authors title the book "The Sorcerer's Apprentice?" In that story, a magician's apprentice brings household items to life, and then loses control of what he has created. Will medical imaging spin out of control as well, the authors rhetorically ask? All of us -- physicians and current or potential patients alike -- can find the answer, and at the same time benefit tremendously --by reading this book.

Excellent Book

This is an excellent book. Medical imaging is a multi-billion dollar a year industry and it provides spectacular benefits to patients. But it can be expensive and the utilization of MRI and CT scans is growing fast.

The authors comprehensively review all of the issues surrounding imaging: radiation exposure, cost, history (all the way back to the very first X-ray) and how we pay for such services.

If you are interested in healthcare systems, you really should read this book. For example, the authors state that hospitals are making more profit from imaging than from its bread-and-butter services like nursing. Another interesting fact--there are about 2 imaging procedures done each year on average in the US for each and every person (~600M studies).

This book is very up-to-date and discusses the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). It also discusses the craze of whole body imaging of healthy patients in order to spot disease before it becomes symptomatic.

They also discuss where technology is heading and some of the color images are astounding.

I cannot however, give this five stars. The authors are a bit too biased in favor of protecting the tight control radiologists have on this market. The authors dismiss some cost control strategies as if they were trying the Cinnamon Test. Radiologists are very well paid--top five of all specialties--and they want that to remain so.

UPDATE 01MAY12 A couple of days ago I saw an article that reported that radiologist are now the highest paid specialists, beating out anesthesiologists, ob gyns and surgeons. So, I think the reason I gave it four stars is now evens more important.

About the Author
Born in 1963, in Milan, Luca Massimo Accialini is well-known for his long-term activity as archivist of records of the Rolling Stones. The first edition of this book was published in 1996 and three more editions have been released.

I guess I blame myself for making this purchase. I did not realize that there are no pictures of any of the records. I collect unusual Lp covers and 45 picture sleeves of The Rolling Stones. This book does not have any pictures at all. I would recommend the books by Christoph Maus which contain photos of all of the records discussed.

Since 1996 i bought all his books and cd's of the Rollling Stones. Pay attention that there are no covers shown, but the whole book is a creme de la creme when you are a real serious collector. You can find a wealth of info about about almost every serious country in the world.
Also very much backinfo about the how and why of issues.
For the last 20 years his info about the Stones is my daily bible.
BUY IT, A MUST HAVE!!!!!

About the Author

Claire Jamieson is Dyslexia Coordinator at UCL. She was a member of the 2005 DfES Working Party on Assessment of Dyslexia in Higher Education. She was a founder member of ADSHE and was Chair from 2004 -2006, and is Vice Chair of the National Committee for Standards in Assessment and Training. She has many years of experience as an assessor and tutor of dyslexic students.

Ellen Morgan worked as a Dyslexia Coordinator in Higher Education for 18 years; she is currently a Specialist Dyslexia Tutor at The City University, London, and has published widely in the field of adult dyslexia.
