About the Author
A globally recognized expert on intellectual property law, Paul Goldstein is the author of an influential four-volume treatise on U.S. copyright law and a one-volume treatise on international copyright law, as well as leading casebooks on intellectual property and international intellectual property. He has authored seven other books including two novels devoted to intellectual property themes, Errors and Omissions and A Patent Lie. Some of his other works include Copyright's Highway: From Gutenberg to the Celestial Jukebox, a widely acclaimed book on the history and future of copyright, and Intellectual Property: The Tough New Realities That Could Make or Break Your Business.Professor Goldstein currently serves as of counsel at Morrison & Foerster in their intellectual property group and has been regularly included in Best Lawyers in America. He has served as chairman of the U.S. Office of Technology Assessment Advisory Panel on Intellectual Property Rights in an Age of Electronics and Information, has been a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright, and Competition Law in Munich, Germany, and was a founding faculty member of the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center. "Decentred" me to the max!

One would think a political history of journalism might make for very stimulating reading - and it could, if it were not written by this author. Clarity and succinctness were not in her repertoire.

I resented this book because of the writing style. For whatever reason, the author produced a cornucopia of run-on sentences (an example: "Indeed, in spite of the crises of public confidence in journalists, and in spite of the demands for a more professional, that is, in particular, a more introspective gaze (is what I see all that there is to see, or am I being blinded by my own stereotypes?), we may question whether journalism has altogether broken away from this now ancient structure of the 'I see', which translates as: 'I make all of you see', or 'you are all unified behind me'.). Geezie. I need mental floss after reading stuff like that.

The language rendered the sometimes abstract concepts even more murky. Could she really care about making points clearly and still compose a book like this? Although I can't truly know what the author is like, this book gave me the impression of a writer who relishes being thought of as super-smart, rather than someone who writes to inform a broad swath of readers about the topic at hand. I could always be wrong.
