About the Author

Erian A. Baskharone, Ph.D., is a Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, and a member of the Rotordynamics/Turbomachinery Laboratory Faculty. He is a member of the ASME Turbomachinery Executive Committee. After receiving his Ph.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Baskharone became a Senior Engineer with Allied-Signal Corporation (currently Honeywell Aerospace Corporation), responsible for the aerodynamic design of various turbofan and turboprop engines. His research covered a wide spectrum of turbomachinery topics, including unsteady stator/rotor flow interaction, and the fluid-induced vibration problem in the Space Shuttle Main Engine. Dr. Baskharone’s perturbation approach to the problem of turbomachinery fluid-induced vibration was a significant breakthrough. He is the recipient of the General Dynamics Award of Excellence in Engineering Teaching (1991) and the Amoco Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching (1992).

Good reference, but not what you will need to pass the test.

This is a really good book on basic forensics. Here is the bad news...almost nothing in the book prepared me for the test. The test was almost 100% scenario based. The practice questions were not even close to the real test, and they are not being updated or supported by the company who made them any longer.
As a reference book, Chuck has done a great job, but you will need much more than this to pass the test.

You will pass the CCFP if you follow the author's guidance.

Can any single book fully prepare you for an exam? Yes, and no. The "common body of knowledge" is so vast, that an exam question can range from the simplest technical area, to the extremely theoretical. The knowledge in the field of forensics fills volumes, yet Chuck Easttom's book contains everything you need to succeed in preparing for and passing the CCFP exam.

The book contains all of the information in the required domains. More importantly, the book offers excellent tips and clear warnings about where to pay extra attention. Heed those warnings! Most importantly, the endnotes of the chapters are instrumental towards your success. The author clearly points you towards those areas of extra study. So, to answer the question of whether a single book is sufficient to pass the exam, the answer in this case is a resounding YES, However, you must look towards the external references that the author has generously provided as well as the wisdom and experience that he has provided in the main text.

Remember that any certification exam is geared towards demonstrating a basic knowledge of the field. Your expertise and ingenuity is what will carry you through your successful career. This book will prepare you for the reqiured credential to move forward.

My supervisor/lead recommended this book to me since I was reading a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. I ordered it from Amazon. After I received it, I moved it to the front of my reading list. I am happy that I did.
This story at the beginning of the book reminds me of the story, “The Tale of Tabby” from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Think Possible. The young and main characters each need a special dog to help them in different ways. The respective dog bonds with young person and helps him in the future.
This is an inspirational story. If you want to feel good, I recommend Max as a good, enjoyable and uplifting read.

Consider the age of your child before reading this

Great book, however I think the age recommendations may be a little skewed. I wish I had read this WITH my ten-year-old for the first time. There was a topic of pirating video games and stolen military weapons that probably should have been addressed before he read it independently!

It is so admirable that dogs can work as diligently as humans to protect and serve their country. Dog are amazing creatures with exceptional abilities and the loyalty they have for their masters are unparalleled. This book was wonderful, sad and uplifting all at once. A must read!!
